Costa Rica - Part 9

After a few days visiting Monteverde, we were transported to the Arenal Observatory Lodge located near the Arenal volcano.  The lodge was originally built in 1987, on a ridge 1.7 miles from the volcano, by the Smithsonian as a scientific research station following the sudden reawakening of the volcano in 1968.  The Arenal Observatory Lodge is well known for the birdwatching opportunities.

When we arrived, the grounds were beautiful, but socked in by rain and fog.

We did spot this turtle making its way towards the koi pond.

A short hike from our room took us to this waterfall.

The grounds contained may different varieties of heliconias and other kinds of flowers.
