Yellowstone 2020 - Part 8

On another day we made an early morning start to visit the Midway and Lower Geyser Basins.

It was a cold morning and the steam from the thermal features turned to fog shrouding the Midway Geyser area.

The moisture had collected on the boardwalks and trees as frost.

Excelsior Geyser Crater

Grand Prismatic Spring was pretty well hidden by fog.

But the conditions created other interesting photographs.

After leaving Midway Geyser Basin, we stopped to visit Lower Geyser Basin.

Again the plants were decorated with frost.

Clepsydra Geyser erupts frequently to about 45 feet in height.

The Lower Geyser Basin mud pots had become somewhat dry by this time of year.

The always changing thermal areas often kill stands of trees growing in the wrong place.

Near the Lower Geyser Basin is the Firehole Lake drive with several nice thermal features.

Including the wonderful Great Fountain Geyser ...

... and frequently erupting White Dome Geyser.
