Since we were relatively close to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, we made multiple visits during our stay in the area. Here are some images from our second visit.
Manatees are often seen from a viewing deck near the Haulover Canal at the northern end of Merritt Island. The water was pretty cloudy, but we were still able the see a few when they came near the surface.

While we were at the viewing deck, the drawbridge for the highway over the canal opened.
After leaving the Manatee viewing deck, we took another drive around the Black Point Wildlife Drive.

This bird appears to be a hybrid cross between a Snowy Egret and a Tricolored Heron.
