In a large tree in the campground, a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks had raised a couple of chicks which had recently fledged. They seemed fairly tolerant of people watching them and taking pictures.
Fledgling hawks
A parent had just brought a small snake.
Parts of the campground were littered with lots of pieces of hard woody fragments. We found out that these were pieces from the fruit pods of Mahogany trees.
The Mahogany seeds develop inside a hard shelled pod.
As the seeds mature, the hard shell starts to split open.
This exposes the cluster of winged seeds
Once exposed, the winged seeds dry out and are blown away by the wind.
Lots of flying things about

Wood Stork
Great White Egret
