One new road we explored during this visit was the Gros Ventre Road up towards the headwaters of the Gros Ventre River.
Some very colorful hills
A cute pit toilet
One fascinating geological feature we discovered along this road is the Gros Ventre Landslide. On June 23, 1925, a huge landslide came off of Sheep Mountain, flowed into the valley below and damned the Gros Ventre River. On May 18, 1927, part of the natural dam failed and the resulting flood downstream obliterated the small town of Kelly.
Views of the Tetons on the drive back out
A cow moose standing in a pond near the Taggart Lake Trailhead
A beaver lodge in the same pond
Nearby this young male moose was feeding on shrubs.
