Here are a few miscellaneous images to wrap up the posts for this visit to
Yellowstone.
This tree growing from the cliff is known as
"Moosehead" by regular wildlife watchers as seen from one particular
parking area.
Snowberries were part of the autumn vegetation.
We saw a few Northern Harriers hunting over the meadows.
Shy bull elk
We often saw Pronghorns, but usually not good photo-ops
West of the park on the Madison River is the Hebgen Lake reservoir. On August 17, 1959, a large magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred along faults near the lake. There was ground displacement along the fault ruptures of up to 20 feet. At least 28 people were killed and many campers were trapped due to destroyed roads. A massive landslide just downstream of Hegben Lake blocked the Madison River, eventually forming a new lake called Earthquake Lake.
This embankment is part of the earthquake fault scarp.
Earthquake Lake and some of trees that were drowned.
Great series, Art. Thanks for the wonderful views!
