On October 29th we spent much of a day exploring the Alabama Hills just west of Lone Pine, California. The Alabama Hills have long been a favorite area of ours and we wanted to really check out some of the many dirt roads and 4x4 trails in this wonderland of rocks.
Mount Whitney and the Sierra Nevada skyline from the Alabama Hills
The eroded boulders have amazing shapes.
Does anyone else see a giant gopher?
Even the occasional arch or window
Off the beaten path
I wonder what conditions caused this clean hole to erode in the huge boulder.

We decided that this would be a good lunch spot.

One of the most famous formations is the Mobius Arch.
Most photos are taken with the arch framing Mount Whitney.
Here are a couple of shots of the Mobius Arch from other angles.
